President’s Message – September, 2017

Some of you may have seen the MAKE NJ AD CLUB GREAT AGAIN hat I’ve shared on Twitter over the past year with tongue firmly in cheek. Truth is that I think the club is already great. I’m very proud of what we have achieved together over the past couple of years. And as president, I’m looking forward to many more great things ahead.

Two years ago, we took our website from the dark ages to present day. But we never stop looking for ways to improve. Our membership boasts more talented people with digital chops than ever before. So be on the lookout for a ‘newer and more improved’ website in the next few months. The plan includes better calendar linking and integration as well as better photo galleries from past events and a blog where members can share insights.

This year’s NJ Ad Club Jersey Awards saw the most entries and most attendees we’ve ever had. Major kudos to the entire Jersey Awards committee for their hard work to make the event an annual highlight for our entire advertising community.

Our other two major annual events have also gained traction and momentum. They represent both sides of the spectrum of our community. Jersey’s Best honors outstanding MARCOM professionals under 40 while The Advertising Hall of Fame of New Jersey inducts individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the creative and economic values of our profession in the state.

Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of moderating numerous panels which garnered unique insights and new perspectives for our members. This includes folks from R/GA, VaynerMedia, Nickelodeon and Dunkin’ Brands. We were also honored to have former New York Times advertising columnist Stuart Elliott do a Town Hall with us, sharing great stories and answering lots of audience questions.

If you haven’t seen our Professional Spotlight Video Series, I suggest you check it out. The series is headed into its third season. No spoilers here but we promise it will not disappoint.

I want to thank our most recent past president, Franco Zito, for his leadership and vision. I’m also very enthused by our very active Board of Directors. The combination of returning board members along with the fresh blood from new board members sets the stage for terrific things ahead.

An active board is only part of the recipe for our success. We value the participation of the entire club membership. I hope you will get involved and share your talents with us. Is there a committee you want to join? Do you have ideas for new events and programs? Get in touch with me or any other board member. We’d love to rope you in! Or simply reach out to our amazing club administrator Pat Hanley via email at and she’ll be sure to get back to you.

With the bar set high, I look forward to keeping up the momentum for the next two years.

I’m Rob Schnapp, NJ Ad Club president, and I approve this message.
