Zal Venet, a member of the New
Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame, passed away at
the Daughters of Israel Geriatrics Center in West
Orange on November 15. He was interred at Temple
Beth Jacob Cemetery in Newburgh, N.Y.
The longtime Ad Club member was founder and owner
of Venet Advertising in Union, where he worked
for more than 30 years before retiring some 12
years ago. He pioneered the use of television
for supermarket advertising and introduced Sunday
advertising for food retailers, the use of multiple
full-page spreads and the first continuity program
of free-standing pre-print inserts in newspapers.
An active supporter of the Newark Boys Chorus,
Zenet was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of
Fame in April of 1984.
A graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York
City, Venet was a combat veteran of the U. S.
Army in World War II.
Surviving are his sons, Alan of William, Oregon,
and William of Beacon, N.Y.; a brother, Sydney,
of Sherman Oaks, California; a sister, Shola Ostrow,
of Sacramento, California; and two grandchildren,
Nathan and Ursula Venet.
Donations in honor of Venet may be made to the
Daughters of Israel Home, West Orange or to a
charity of one’s choice. |
