Hall of Famer Zal Venet Succumbs at 79

Zal Venet, a member of the New Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame, passed away at the Daughters of Israel Geriatrics Center in West Orange on November 15. He was interred at Temple Beth Jacob Cemetery in Newburgh, N.Y.

The longtime Ad Club member was founder and owner of Venet Advertising in Union, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring some 12 years ago. He pioneered the use of television for supermarket advertising and introduced Sunday advertising for food retailers, the use of multiple full-page spreads and the first continuity program of free-standing pre-print inserts in newspapers. An active supporter of the Newark Boys Chorus, Zenet was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in April of 1984.

A graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York City, Venet was a combat veteran of the U. S. Army in World War II.
Surviving are his sons, Alan of William, Oregon, and William of Beacon, N.Y.; a brother, Sydney, of Sherman Oaks, California; a sister, Shola Ostrow, of Sacramento, California; and two grandchildren, Nathan and Ursula Venet.
Donations in honor of Venet may be made to the Daughters of Israel Home, West Orange or to a charity of one’s choice.
