To be a part of this vast, caring phenomenon, visit the internet for lists upon lists of places accepting donations of any kind — from spare rooms to clothing to cases of water to refurbished military barracks. Even the fire engine donated to New York City after 9/11 by the New Orleans Fire Department is on its way back to Louisiana. The American Red Cross is perhaps the most visible site. Visit www.redcross.org/donate/-donation-form.asp to contribute.
