Who Stole My Ladder? Who Took The Words?

by Suzanne Poor

A couple of years ago a transient handyman offered to clean the gutters of our Montclair house for a reasonable fee. “OK,” I said. “May I use your big extension ladder?” he asked. “Sure,” I said, granting permission. Gutters clear of leaves, we heard nothing from him until the following fall when he confronted me at our back porch, saying he’d already done the job for that year. And then he asked me if he could borrow the ladder to purge the neighbors’ gutters. Again I granted permission on the condition that he return the ladder when his self-imposed neighborhood tasks were over.

Wine Tasting

A networking event with New Jersey wines from Alba Vineyard in Milford, New Jersey, at The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts in Summit July 16 was deemed a huge success with 75 attending and tasting such NJ specialties as Mainsl White (a Pinot Grigio taste-alike); Dry Riesling 2001; a pleasant Chardonnay; 1999 Heritage, a popular red table wine; and an equally delightful Red Raspberry dessert wine.

Crossing My Legs on the Tappan Zee Bridge:
Job Seeking in “Post-Recession” America

by Bernie Libster
The morning of June 23, the very day I was driving to a job interview at Reader’s Digest, a man threatened to jump off the Tappan Zee Bridge, bringing traffic to a complete standstill for several hours. The 44-mile drive from Hasbrouck Heights took me 3-1/4 hours. It was probably a harbinger.

Talk Back

Dear Suzanne:
Just a short note to thank you for your most welcome—and generous—contribution which helped to make the American Cancer Society’s Crimson Ball a success this year.
Your help—and support—are greatly appreciated. Many thanks to you and all of the members of the NJ Ad Club. I am proud and privileged to a part of an organization such as this.
  Best personal regards,
  Pat Tesman, Senior Vice President
  Gianettino & Meredith

To the Editor:
Several weeks ago I contacted the Ad Club in response to a “Wake-Up Call Workshop” promotional piece that was misleading because it entertained the presenter as “Jim Wardell of NJ Biz Magazine.”
Later I received an e-mail regarding the event and again it presented the speaker as from “NJ Biz Magazine.” He is employed by NJ Biz Newspaper. I’m appalled that the members of the Ad Club received this note and perceive NJ Biz to be New Jersey Business Magazine. NJ Biz is a weekly “newspaper” not to be confused with New Jersey Business Magazine.
  Sincerely,
  Phillip Battista, Associate Publisher
  New Jersey Business
