Berlin (NJ) Community School’s Gifted and Talented Program students visited the Cherry Hill offices of THE STAR GROUP for a hands-on look at how a marketing communications firm operates. The students’ enthusiasm for advertising and public relations, which they studied during the fall semester, was equally matched by their commitment to helping those in need. Well aware that The Star Group and CEO LINDA ROSANIO work closely with the American Red Cross, the fourth and fifth graders in the Gifted and Talented Program mounted a school-wide raffle, donating the $1,000 proceeds to American Red Cross to benefit children affected by Hurricane Katrina. The agency was also selected by American Christmas — the dominant leader in the multi-million-dollar holiday market — and won a three-year contract to handle the Delaware Lottery. MARY PADULA, a 17-year veteran of the firm and head of media operations based in the Philadelphia office, has been named a managing partner.

CHRIS APOSTLE has joined the SIGMA GROUP, Oradell, as director of strategic planning, responsible for growing the agency through new client development, strategic alliance formation and account direction. He joins the agency after being president of the branded entertainment firm Gold Group, and, still earlier, he was founder, president and CEO of FusionPoint.

THE MARATHON GROUP, Mount Laurel, has hired ASHLEY M. HESS as account coordinator. She is responsible for the day-to-day management of client accounts and for administration and assistance to account executives and the director of client services. A Temple University alumna, she was the account manager for Diamond Edge Communications, the student-run advertising agency where she ran a five-member team. Hess was a media planning and buying intern for MAYOSEITZ MEDIA INC.

NJ ADCLUB treasurer and CLEAR CHANNEL OUTDOOR account executive MARVIN STRAUZER serves on the special marketing board for The Boys and Girls Clubs of NJ. When Kenny Rogers appeared at last fall’s Third Annual Concert For Kids at NJPAC, Strauzer was there to greet him (along with more than 2,000 in attendance).

S3, Boonton, unveiled a new Web site it created for TRI-K Industries, a major supplier of raw materials to the personal care industry. The new site features a more intuitive interface than its predecessor and is designed to generate marketing synergies with TRI-K’s printed materials. The agency also added MICHAEL DILLON as associate creative director/copy. He most recently served senior copywriter for the LUNAR GROUP. Earlier, he worked Welch Nehlen Groome in NYC.

Shah, who holds a BA degree in Mass Communications from East Tennessee State University, comes to agency from Manning, Selvage & Lee Public Relations, where she was an account associate.

The Center supports such patient-service programs as the Tree of Life Celebration, the Friends of Hospice Tea and Book Donation.
