Takes Best of Show at 37th Annual Jersey Awards
Sheer Advertising’s
single spot commercial for Burlington Coat Factory won
Best of Show at the 37th Annual Jersey Awards dinner
and ceremonies at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. The
“Tuck” commercial also captured the Best
of Television award, while “Mirrors,” a
point-of-purchase display, was awarded Best of Collateral.
The South Orange agency won a total of 22 awards, including
ten first- and four second-place awards.

2005 Hall of Famers
Inducted
Five New Jersey communication giants rose
a notch higher in peer prestige when they were inducted
into the New Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame March 24.
Karl Dentino of Dentino Marketing, Edward J. Efchak
of the North Jersey Media Group, Linda Rosanio of The
Star Group, Debra Taeschler of The Gráfica Group
and the late Patricia Tesman of Gianettino & Meredith
joined 52 other outstanding advertising, marketing and
public relations leaders. John B. Gambling, Leonard
Dreyfuss, George H. Gallup, Ron Gianettino and William
N. Scheer are among past recipients.

The
Ultimate in Ambulance Chasing
Several months ago we attended
an academic conference in the high-class — read
luxurious — vacation resort of St. Simon’s
Island, Georgia. It was a conclave of 18th-century
scholars who spend three days each year reading esoteric
papers to each other. Never mind that the base camp
of this section of the American Society of Eighteenth
Century Studies is Texas; they congregate anywhere
there might be sunshine, fun and exotic sights..

Most Eclectic Collection of Panelists
Our April 13th luncheon on “Women
of Influence” was by all accounts a success,
both in the number of attendees and in the agenda
provided. Not least of the success of this event was
our partnership with two other professional organizations,
the Northern N.J. Professional Chapter of the Association
of Women in Communication and the Public Relations
Society of America (NJ Chapter). For many, it was
an opportunity to see friends and acquaintances from
these groups, and for all an opportunity to make new
ones..

Ad Month
In New Jersey
Acting Governor Richard J.
Codey declared May, 2005 as Advertising Month in New
Jersey in a proclamation dated April 27 in recognition
of the vital work the advertising community does to
promote the health and welfare of the New Jersey economy.
According to a 2004 study by the economic consulting
firm, Global Insight, the advertising industry is expected
to generate an estimated $165 billion in New Jersey
this year, a figure prominent in the proclamation.
