Letters, Letters, Letters

A volunteer organization like the New Jersey Advertising Club is always seeking new people to help promote itself, gain new members, find good writers for AdTalk, join a speakers bureau.

The organization’s letter-writing expert, Len Brown (he’s also a board of directors member), has composed compelling letters that all members have received via e-mail. Excerpts are recorded here.

Dear Colleague,
Wouldn’t you like to have the whole world know your name? We can start you on the way.

The KARMA REPORT: The Resurrection of a Junk Mail Copywriter
by Bernie Libster

Imagine a large room with three windows but no direct light. Add a willowy blonde of 23, a sultry, dark-haired Latina of 28, a handsome Arab-looking man (actually an Israeli) of 32 and a less-handsome though still young man, all of them vital and eager to taste life to the fullest. Finally, toss in a tired, irritable, gray-haired former candidate for early retirement with a compulsive love of quiet and privacy. Sound effects: constant ringing of “landline” phones, cell phones playing themes from

When Marketing Becomes Exploitation
by Suzanne Poor

We were in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the last weekend in February for an academic conference where I delivered a paper on Jonathan Swift. I had driven through New Mexico on the old Route 66 when it actually was the southern route across the western half of the country. Santa Fe was one of the cities we whizzed through. But this weekend, decades later, was an eye opener.

Hall of Fame Spotlight: Q&A with Kay Ritta of Ritta & Associates

Editor’s Note: Since there will be no Hall of Fame inductees this year, this new column will feature interviews
